November 2008 - The Madhatters Ball

So it’s official: Fujairah residents are aweird and wonderful bunch of folk, as witnessed by some astonishing headgear that arrived at The Madhatters Ball at the Hilton on 13th November.About 100 people turned up to the event, which had to be hastily relocated from the gardens to the ballroom due to the noxious red tide hitting Fujairah that weekend. The smaller venue actually heightened the party atmosphere, and people were up dancing almost as soon as the first band started up. 4 young Nepalese guys calling themselves Eleventh Hour produced some great rock and R&B sounds. After an hour’s set they were followed by the band Hennessy. I have to report that the ballroom must be well soundproofed, as the room truly rocked.

Our four judges had a tough time choosing winners from among the fabulous hat creations.

Thanks to both Eleventh Hour and Hennessy. A huge thank you also to Sharjah Wanderers who lent us their entire PA systemand Pete Martin who lent us lights. Thanks also to Jason Edwards who came all the way from Abu Dhabi to do the sound engineering, and MC Joan Stephenson.

Grateful thanks to our key sponsors Imation, Fujairah Tennis & Country Club, Global Process Systems and Air Arabia, and to our many other generous prize donors. The total raised was Dhs.22,062 including ticket sales and bribes to the judges, sorry I mean cashdonations to our two charities.
